Best Overall Cricket Development Program 2007 – ICC Americas

In order to ensure a sustainable growth of the game in Chile, the ACC has focused heavily on its junior development program since its inception in 2003.

The program provides a clear pathway for players from primary school to the senior national team, and involves over 2,000 children playing at all levels.

Overseen by the Development Committee and its team of dedicated volunteer coaches and administrators, the program has experienced incredible growth over the last few years, with the game now played in 14 schools and a national team competing at U13, U15 and U19 levels. A healthy regional development program ensures that cricket is expanding beyond its traditional boundaries in Chile.

Many of the children who were introduced to ‘Penguin Cricket’ in schools across the country over five years ago now make up the national U19 team and play an active role in senior domestic cricket. As this trend continues, cricket in Chile will go from strength to strength as local grown talent challenges the traditional expat core of the senior national team.
